A debate on snow and its merits

It was snowing. On October 12.

Our critics debate.

Snow way in hell
By Patrick St. Michel

There are only three good things about snow:

1. Frosty the Snowman
2. Hostess Snow Balls
3. Snowboard Cross

That’s it. I was going to go to SPAC today, but the snow made me want to curl up in bed and
die. But wait, I have a class assignment where I have to talk to people in Evanston. In weather
more suitable for the Winter X Games.

I hate the snow. Hate it with every inch of my Californian-body. Global warming can’t come
fast enough.

Snow: An Appreciation
By Tom Giratikanon

In this era of war and terrorism, snow is one thing we can count on.

In an age of Tom Cruise jumping up on couches, snow still only falls downward.

In an age of global warming, snow is still cold.

In an age of Mark Foley, snow makes kids happy.

Snow. It’s the last, best hope for humanity.

So is snow a winter wonderland or does it just mean hell frozen over? Leave a comment!

  1. SNOW!!! It’s snowing!!
Snow is awesome. At least the first snow. Once we start freezing our tooties off, then we can hate it. But until then…

    Frosty the Snowman
    was a Jolly Happy Soul
with a corncob pipe and a button nose
and two eyes made out of coal…

    Yay for snow!

  4. So today is basically the first time I’ve ever seen real snow. I’m from the New Orleans area, so we get the occasional slushie every ten years or so, but basically, this was it. It was about 8:58, and I was going to my 9 o’clock, when all of a sudden this white powder starts drifting down onto me from the direction of the trees (you know, up), and I’m just like, “POLLEN! WHY IS THERE POLLEN IN FALL!”

And then, when I got into class, someone said, “It’s snowing already!” and I got it.

  5. I get excited when it snows early. It makes me feel like I’m back in Syracuse. But without sledding hills and cross-country ski trails, it gets old sooner here. Especially when there’s never enough to build a good snowperson (yes, I’m trying to be politically correct). And all you snow-haters out there, just be glad it doesn’t snow here in May. Because it does in Syracuse.
