Don’t mind the man behind the camera

Anthony Williams stands poised behind silver camera, constantly nudging the device ever-so-slightly up or down to get the best shot of the DM dance floor. Williams twists and turns his tool even though no images of the actual event are appearing on the big screen — instead, the video for TLC’s “No Scrubs” plays.
“You always have to be finding interesting shots,” the School of Communications junior said.
Williams is one of three Video Coordinators for Louis Room Productions (LRP), and is responsible for manning one of the various cameras set up around the room during the dancing.
The camera operator said he danced in DM his freshman year, and those 30 hours left a big impact on him.
“I really thought it was an amazing time,” Williams said. “I wanted to be part of it.”
He said he has several friends who were already working on LRP, so getting involved was an easy decision for him.
Williams said a camera operator looks for certain shots while on duty.
“You want everyone in the shot to be having a good time,” he said. “When everyone’s moving, that’s great.”
As the Video Coordinator took up his post once again, he said how impressive Dance Marathon is to him.
“Everybody involved is outdoing themselves,” Williams said. “Something of this caliber only happens at Northwestern.”
