Our friends did it last year. Now it’s our turn

Lydia Colunga and Lesley Arca dance on the visitor’s platform during the third block.

With the sounds of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s coming to a close, dancers hurried off the floor to prop their feet against the walls and catch a super-quick nap. At this point, as dawn approaches and feet start to ache, many students taking part in DM are probably questioning why they are even doing this in the first place. Well, many of them said they know exactly why they sacrifice their body for 30 hours.

“I have a couple of good friends who did it last year, and it seemed like a great time,” McCormick sophomore Erick Bennett said near the water coolers stationed in the back of Louis. “Plus the money is going to a good cause.”

Freshman Montgomery Miller, feet propped up against the wall, said similar reasons prompted him to dance this year. Friends he knew last year participated in last year’s 30-hour-dance-a-thon, and said “they had a lot of fun.”

The tie-dyed-shirt-clad Weinberg student said the charity aspect of the event played a big part in his decision to dedicate such a substantial chunk of time to DM.

Sophomore Suegene Lee said friends also inspired her to let loose for this year’s edition of DM. But she also said the event was an essential NU undertaking.

“It’s a good experience,” the Weinberg student said while sitting down. “It’s one of those experiences you just have to do.”
