DM helps CURE, CURE helps DM

Megan Leyden’s brother lived 20 years without epilepsy.

“We don’t know how he got it or why he got it,” Leyden said. “He was doing laundry one day, then he had a seizure.”

Her brother is the reason the 26-year-old Chicago resident joined CURE last April. CURE, DM’s primary beneficiary, raises money for epilepsy research and spreads awareness about the disease. Representatives like Leyden were on hand at Norris, helping the committees and talking to people about their organization.

Leyden is on the CURE’s Junior Ward committee, a group of adults in their 20’s and 30’s who work to increase epilepsy awareness among young people. That makes DM the perfect event for her to help at. The only problem: There’s not much to do. She’s been trying to work with the food committee.

“But they have it so under control, I almost feel like I’m in the way,” she said.
