Horst Schastok looks at DM’s silent auction. Schatok is the husband of Evanston Community Foundation Executive Director Sara L. Schastok. The ECF receives ten percent of the total funds raised at DM.

Next to the winding caffeine line of Starbucks and a live video feed from the dance floor, DM is still quietly raising money.

The DM silent auction has been running all day and ends at 8 p.m. Saturday. The tables by the Norris Couches offer gift certificates from local businesses and a slew of merchandise signed by celebrities. Paul Oakenfold and Zach Braff signed CDs lay next to DVDs signed by Vin Diesel and James Cameron.

The bid on a vintage King Kong poster signed by Peter Jackson is at $175, while a signed copy of Barak Obama’s The Audacity of Hope is going for more than $125.

The auction has been busy all day with browsers, though many don’t bid. The celebrity items have been getting the most attention while Kaplan classes, with minimum bids at $600, have empty bid sheets.

McCormick sophomore Stacy Devino and Weinberg freshman Hallie Fishman look at gift certificates for Express Studio and Victoria Secret. Some of the other items in the auction are a signed head shot of Morgan Freeman and a dodge ball signed by Ben Stiller.
