Elegy

By Amanda NeMoyer

He is not here, but far away.

It is all over. Say goodbye

to times when you could pass a day

in his company. You could cry,

but what good would that do for you?

Your tears would not change anything.

And tomorrow, he will not woo

you in the moonlight. He won’t sing

that funny song that made you fall

for him… He was so terrific.

Wasn’t it great when you could call

him for anything? You can’t pick

just one that made him amazing.

It was his actions, and his care

for others that made him the king

of any castle. You will share

your grief, and they’ll say it will pass.

So you play your positive part.

But there will be something missing

in the deserts of the heart.
