Best Concert of the Week

Low, April 13, 9 p.m. at Metro

Low
Low

Slowcore pioneers Low have been at the music game since the 1990’s, and haven’t lost a step. Their latest effort, Drums and Guns, is one of their finest albums yet. Catch the trio headline Metro this Friday before they become the opening act for famed Chicago rockers Wilco. Tickets cost $16.

The Best of the Rest

The Twilight Sad, April 9, 8:30 p.m. at Subterannean

For all you folks hoping to catch the next great indie band efore they blow up, here is a golden opportunity. The Twilight Sad hail from Scotland, and combine the grandiose sound of The Arcade Fire with shoegazer aestetics. They just dropped their debut LP, Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters, and just got headliner-status after original-main act Aerogramme experienced visa troubles. All for the best; The Twilight Sad are one of the most promising young bands out there right now, and deserve a shot to shine. Added bonus - I will be at this concert, so scream out “One-Click Wonders” and maybe I’ll say hello. Maybe. Tickets cost $10.

Blonde Redhead, April 14, 9 p.m at Metro

Wow, just camp out at Metro this week. Veteran rockers Blonde Redhead support their latest (and excellent) album 23 Friday night. A great show for sure. Tickets cost a semi-steep $21, but it’s worth it.

Klaxons, April 15, Time To Be Announced at Urban Outfitters.

British new ravers Klaxons have just started their first North American tour, and hit Chicago next weekend. They play Schubas Monday night, but if you’d like to save some cash, come out to Urban Outfitters in Chicago next Sunday to catch a free show from the English trio. Plus, you can buy some shitty t-shirts with ironic logos on them. Did I mention the show is free?

Avoid at All Costs

Chevelle, April 13, 7 p.m. at Riviera

Send the pain away, am I right? Semi-Christian rockers Chevelle still apparently make music, but you shouldn’t find out what it sounds like. Tickets cost $23 too much.

Comments

  1. More like $35 dollars too much. They would have to pay me twelve dollars to go down there and make fun of their music. Chevelle, dude. Ouch.
