What did you think about this week’s episode of Grey’s?

You knew it was coming: the Grey’s Anatomy fan blog. Each week, I’ll post my summaries, suspicions and speculations about the latest episode of Northwestern’s favorite TV show (according to Facebook). You, Grey’s uber-fan, will respond with comments. That is, unless you’re not an uber-fan. In that case, you’re better off reading Why You Should Care or something.

“Time after Time,” aired April 19, 2007

Meredith begins the episode by describing the problems with collecting patient history, leading into an episode where almost everyone comes face-to-face with their past. She says, “Our history eventually always comes back to haunt us.”

Meredith
Meredith’s stepmother, Susan, tries to grow closer to her, over her protests. I know Meredith has a troubled past and serious issues with her father, but her stepmother has been remarkably kind to her. Meredith herself said she wanted to work on her relationship with her father and Susan, but backs away when Susan starts reaching out to her. To get past being an emotional basket case, Meredith needs to stop saying “woe is me” and let people, especially her family, into her life. I think she realized this at the end of the episode when she told Susan she’s only had an overbearing mother, never an overprotective one.

Izzie
Izzie’s past catches up with her when her daughter, Hannah, ends up at Seattle Grace with leukemia. Izzie’s emotional tumult definitely made this episode worth watching (all the other stuff in this particular episode just seemed like dramatic fluff). Izzie probably needs to find a new place to have her emotional breakdowns though, and give the bathroom floor a rest. I think in every episode of Grey’s, I love Bailey even more. If you’re having a personal problem, she is the one person who will a) not freak out b) actually help you and c) not tell everyone your secret. More drama surrounding Izzie and Hannah will probably ensue; I’m sure the other interns will probably get mad at Izzie for not telling them.

George
Okay, the drama with George needs to end. He compared his night with Izzie to his night with Meredith, calling it “tragic” and trying his best to avoid Izzie. I know he’s best friends with Izzie, but he always wants to choose one over the other, and he doesn’t have to do that. Can’t he have a best friend and a wife? He’s going to lose both if he continues the sexual tension with Izzie and keeps lying to Callie. Come on, George, just pick one girl.

Cristina
Cristina is fairly hilarious in this episode. She tries to show off her love for Burke and excitement for her wedding day to prove to her ex-flame, Colin Marlow, that she is indeed the marrying type. To do this, she upped the PDA with Burke (in front of a patient!?) and tests out nail-polish colors to decide what to wear to her wedding. It’s nice to see that Cristina, unlike George, is trying to remain faithful to her significant other despite efforts by Marlow to woo her back. Hopefully this means that Cristina’s in it for the long haul with Burke and won’t flake out.

Alex
I’m really not sure what to make of Alex’s relationship with Jane Doe. It started out sweetly, with Alex going to extreme measures to help a patient he didn’t know. I’m starting to wonder if the writers are dragging Jane Doe’s character out too far though. It will be interesting to see how this progresses now that Jane Doe is really mad at Alex. It’s kind of interesting to see Alex care about a woman in a non-sexual way without expecting anything in return. All I’m saying is this better not begin down the same path as Izzie and Denny.

Derek
Derek is getting greedy. He wants to be chief of surgery and he wants Meredith, and it looks like he’s not going to get both. Derek said he came to Seattle to become the chief and that “Meredith complicates things.” It is really annoying to see Derek start to botch this relationship so soon after they patched it up. Especially since Meredith just died and came back to life (by resuscitation, non-Grey’s viewers — she’s not magical). Didn’t he just get through saying how he couldn’t live without her, and now he’s saying she’s complicating his career? My God! Webber, please just give the chief position to Burke.

Chief Webber
The chief takes the role of comedic relief in this episode when he tries, and fails miserably, to flirt with a woman on the elevator who compliments his sweater. Sloane tries to convince him to get back in the game and let him become his “wing man.” Yes, the chief should probably try to start dating again, but it probably shouldn’t be with the med student on her way back from bio class. Don’t take dating advice from McSteamy. Actually, don’t take dating advice from anyone on the show but Bailey. Bailey rocks.

  1. Is Callie pregnant? Discuss. She is “off” and hasn’t been feeling well for several days. And she’s all moody. In Grey’s Anatomy world, what else could that mean but pregnancy?

  2. They need a pregnancy to spice things up. Honestly, the testing of relationships and hidden desire has been a bit overdone by this time. I don’t think Callie is pregnant, but I hope she is. It would sure take some focus off the George drama and give great cause for a few “awwwww” moments as Callie tells everyone.
