This week’s Grey’s tests the limits
“Testing 1-2-3”
Aired May 10, 2007
The first-year exams cause tension with everyone around the hospital. The interns struggle to memorize everything and the attendings have to work without the menial labor. Beware: This episode contains bad daddies, gay daddies, bar skanks, 51-year-old pregnant women and mountain climbers. Not to mention, the season finale is next week, then no more Grey’s until the end of 2007.
Meredith
Meredith’s father is still just as furious with Meredith as he was when he first found out Susan died. He came to the hospital (looking sort of drunk) yelling at Meredith and refused to let her come to the funeral because he blames her for the death. So, this guy has caused her pain for almost her entire life, and now, on the day of one of the most important exams in her life, screws her up even more. She got to the exam and stared off into space and didn’t write a single thing down, not that I can blame her. However, Richard (in true daddy fashion) gave her a second chance and let her take the exam again. Obviously, Grey’s Anatomy wouldn’t be able to go on too much longer if Meredith Grey wasn’t a doctor.
Derek
Stop being such a baby, Derek! Understandably, Meredith doesn’t really feel like talking so much after her dad verbally abused her in front of the entire hospital, twice. Despite this, Derek looks like a whipped dog every time she walks past. Obviously this means that he’s thinking about breaking up with her again. Shame on you for feeling so sorry about yourself when your girlfriend is going through probably one of the worst moments of her life. Silver lining? Derek turned down a ridiculously attractive women who asked to buy him a drink at Joe’s. Though it looks like he’s going to use her as an excuse to cause trouble with Meredith in the next episode. In fact, it’s rumored that the bar girl (Reunion’s Chyler Leigh) has a 13-episode contract for the next season. Sounds like there’s going to be some drama.
Addison
“I’m being stalked by pregnant women.” Poor Addison, they’re doing everything they can to make her feel as uncomfortable as possible at Seattle Grace. Everyone with a vagina seems to be getting pregnant around her now that she wants to have a kid and can’t. Adele (Chief Webber’s possibly ex-wife) comes in to the hospital after getting into a “fender bender” and tells Addison she’s pregnant. Okay, that’s just really unlikely. She must be at least 15 years older than Addison. Not to mention that Joe and Walter come to Addison asking her to look at the woman pregnant with the child they want to adopt. She tells Callie that she might have better luck getting pregnant if she was “gay, a teenager or a member of AARP.” Though, at the end of the episode, Richard finds Adele unconscious on the bathroom floor with blood everywhere. Not a good sign for the baby.
George
George finds out that he was accepted into Mercy West (though it is contingent on his exam results). Trying to escape Izzie, George says he plans on taking it. Callie couldn’t look happier; she even tells Addison that she wants to get pregnant. Running away from your problems doesn’t make them go away, hasn’t anyone ever told you that George? To his credit, George takes up Meredith’s case more than any of the other interns and tells Richard what happened in the exam, which probably led to Meredith’s second chance with the exam. I’ll give you that, George.
Izzie
To prevent George from transferring to Mercy West, Izzie tells George that their night together didn’t mean anything and she didn’t have feelings for him. However, she then goes running to the storage room and starts crying. I’m not really sure what made her fall in love with George in the first place, though I guess you can’t choose who you’re attracted to. Anyway, while Cristina was complaining about wedding vows and their idiocy to Meredith, Izzie and Callie at her bachelorette party, Izzie starts yelling. She says that all of them take for granted the “love you forever” stuff because they don’t have to worry about losing it, and that it’s hard not to be able to hear it from the person you love. Callie of course zeroes in on this and knows exactly what she’s talking about. Way to spill the beans Izzie.
Alex
Alex finds out that Ava (Jane Doe) got her memory back a few days prior and didn’t tell anyone. She tells him that she was in a lousy marriage with “the nicest guy ever” and she left him. She refuses to tell Alex what her name is or where she’s from so he can’t call her husband. Alex yells at her and reminds her of all the people who are probably worrying about her and all the time the police and other people have put in trying to figure out who she is. It looked like she was just upset that even though she left her husband, he didn’t come looking for her at all. However, in the end she tells Alex that her name is Rebecca Pope. The tension here is interesting, especially since she looks gorgeous now after all the swelling/injuries have kind of gone away.
Cristina
Not too much developed with Cristina in this episode. Predictably, she was a studying fiend trying to prepare for the exam, refusing to acknowledge anything else, including writing vows for her wedding the next day. However, when her best friend had a bit of a breakdown, she was there in typical Cristina-style.
Burke
Burke is still worrying about the wedding. He’s worrying about the plans, his best man backing out (he chose Derek as his replacement) and whether or not he should marry Cristina at all. Sitting with Derek at his somewhat pitiful bachelor party he said “When I see Cristina walking down that aisle…” and Derek finished saying “It will all be worth it.” Don’t know if either of them believes that completely, it sounded kind of ominous. Fifty dollars (that I don’t have) says that there is no way that this wedding is going to go off perfectly, especially since it’s during next week’s season finale.
