Google, The Gap, Peace Corps at career expo

The second floor of Norris was packed Monday with pinstriped suits and résumé-toting seniors for this year’s Campus Recruiting Expo.
Spread across six rooms were 91 company booths adorned with banners and free gifts. Macquarie Holdings passed out tote bags while Discover Financial Services attracted potential employees with candy.
Next to the bustling Discover booth was NU alum Richard Nee, who only had flashlights and yellow foam stars to compete with his well-known neighbors. Nee works for DaVita, a kidney dialysis company with 1,250 locations and more than a hundred thousand patients.
“I love Northwestern so I think we’ll get some good folks,” said Nee, a ‘91 Kellogg graduate.
Though DaVita recently joined the coveted Fortune 500, it didn’t get as much attention at the expo as companies like Teach For America, Ameriprise Financial Services, The Gap, the Peace Corps and Google.
Engineering senior Ilana Rosen stopped by for one or two companies, but said the expo wasn’t targeted at her major.
“Most engineers come to see a few [companies], but some wait for the engineering fair,” said Rosen, who spoke with Target and planned to go to the Liz Claiborne booth.
Though companies outside her major had managed to get her dressed and to the fair, she was not tempted by the bounty of free gifts.
“My room is already cluttered,” said Rosen. “[They] are just going to collect dust.”
