NU alum awarded $11.6M in Knicks harassment suit
A jury awarded Northwestern alumna Anucha Browne Sanders $11.6 million from a lawsuit she brought against the NBA’s New York Knicks, after she said team coach Isiah Thomas sexually harassed her.
Browne Sanders, a former executive for the Knicks, accused Thomas of making crude remarks and unwanted advances at her during her time with the franchise, and firing her as a result. Thomas denied directing any comments or advances at Browne Sanders. The defendants said they plan to appeal the verdict.
A former two-time Big Ten Player of the Year during her time with the Northwestern women’s basketball team and considered one of the school’s best athletes of all-time, Browne Sanders graduated from NU in 1985. Northwestern named her Athlete of the Decade for the 1980s.
