Cloned food is safe, safe
The FDA’s announcement yesterday that cloned animals and the milk squeezed out of them is safe for human consumption caught this vegan’s attention.
Says food safety chief Dr. Stephen Sundlof:
We found nothing in the food that could potentially be hazardous. … It is beyond our imagination to even find a theory that would cause the food to be unsafe.
It sounds like President Bush was brought in for consultation here, what with him being a risks expert. Of course, just because we can’t think of any way that messing with genetics could possibly turn out horribly wrong must mean it’s totally legit.
The average meat eater probably needn’t worry for a while as cloning technology is still significantly more expensive – at $20,000 per head – than artificial insemination – at $600 to $700 per head – or in-vitro fertilization.
