Record number of dancers pushes DM outside of Norris

A record number of dancers — 750 — have registered to participate in Dance Marathon 2008, the group announced late Tuesday night. Generally, about 600 students dance in Norris’ Louis Room each year to raise money for charity.

To handle the growth, DM will rotate dancers through a heated pavilion on Norris’ south lawn. Every dancer will spend one to three blocks in “Club DM,” but dancer partners and groups will not be split up.

Outreach to student groups, and interest in DM 2008’s main beneficiary, the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation, help explain the growth, said Communication senior and DM co-chair Krysta Kauble in a press release.

Earlier this week, speakers shared their stories of pediatric cancer in honor of DM.

  1. That explanation doesn’t make any sense. Dancers registered long before anything about the Bear ambassadors program was announced, or the speakers came to campus. Cause doesn’t come long after effect- it sounds to me much more like someone miscalculated the number of dancers or something similar. I’m not complaining about the new Club DM, but exec giving us a bullshit answer that upon 30 seconds of thought becomes ridiculous is just condescending.

  2. I think you are misinformed, Liz. At the DM general meeting that occured long before dancers registered, DM chairs announced the beneficary. I think this is what the article is refering to.
