Amy Winehouse banned from the United States

That’s right. The entire United States. Amy Winehouse finally crossed some arbitrary line drawn by the American Embassy in London, and has been banned from entering the United States for her scheduled performance at the Grammy’s.

Winehouse’s disgraces include an ironic recent stint in rehab and the emergence of a video showing the singer snorting cocaine.

Grammy organizers will have to devise a contingency plan in case Winehouse wins one of six awards she’s up for, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist.

Analysts say Winehouse’s absence could be a bane for the ceremony: plunging CD sales mean less viewers, and without a high-profile bit of drama, the Grammy’s will have little draw for channel surfers.

Not like America’s own celebrities are significantly more sophisticated.

  1. They reversed their decision and gave her a visa. But it looks like she’s not going to come anyway. http://www.people.com/people/package/article/0,,20173658_20177175,00.html?xid=rss-topheadlines
