Theoretical Polls
By
In a typical election, the Super Tuesday haze fades and we are left with a Democratic front-runner and a Republican front-runner. Things are a bit different this year. With, technically, three candidates left running from each of the two parties we are beginning to see results from theoretical polls.
A TIME poll that came in yesterday shows that were Obama to win the nomination, he could beat McCain 48% to 41%. If Clinton has the nomination, they would tie at 46% each. Regardless, the poll also shows that, nationally, Democrats favor Clinton to win the nomination by a margin of 48% to 42%.
From the article:
The difference, says Mark Schulman, CEO of Abt SRBI, which conducted the poll for TIME, is that “independents tilt toward McCain when he is matched up against Clinton But they tilt toward Obama when he is matched up against the Illinois Senator.” Independents, added Schulman, “are a key battleground.”
