Valentine’s Day mixtape project: Rachel Kalt
By
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and the big softies here at One-Click Wonders want to celebrate by showcasing our favorite love songs. So, up until V-Day itself, this blog will feature a different collection of love songs from NBN staffers and various campus figures. Today, NBN foodie Rachel Kalt cooks up a mix featuring cancelled drama series, Say Anything and awkward crushes.
“Dice” – Finley Quaye
This is the ultimate make-out song. The lyrics, the melody, the song in general….pure sex. Remember that scene in The OC where Ryan arrives at the New Year’s party just in time to kiss Marissa at the stroke of midnight? Yeah, this is the song that was playing. Enough said.
“Just Like Heaven” – The Cure
So pure. So sweet. So upbeat. Listen and swoon.
“Night Moves” – Bob Seger
In my opinion, this song exemplifies college romance (or lack thereof). Stop trying to justify all of those random drunken hookups. Sometimes you just have to embrace the words of Mr. Seger: “I used her, she used me, but neither one cared, we were gettin’ our share.”
“It’s Good to Be in Love” – Frou Frou
Yes, it is good to be in love. And when Imogen Heap sings about it, being in love sounds even better.
“Tenderness” – General Public
This song is so corny it hurts. But not enough to get up and dance to. This song is hands down my favorite guilty pleasure song. It’s kitschy and upbeat and perfectly echoes those super girly feelings that accompany first falling in love. And you gotta love those sextastic moans that kick-off the song….
“Guilty Cubicles” – Broken Social Scene
I can’t tell you whether or not this song has anything to do with love. That’s probably because this song has no words. But what I can tell you is that this song somehow manages to be damn sexy, even without any lyrics.
“In Your Eyes” – Peter Gabriel
This is my favorite song of all time. It would have been on the list even if it had nothing to do with love. But thanks to John Cusack and a little 80s romance hit called Say Anything, this song selection is totally legit. Looking to score big this V-Day? Stand outside her dorm room holding a boom box blasting this classic tune. Sure you’ll be freezing but I guarantee you some poon.
“Beast of Burden” – The Rolling Stones
Who needs love when you can just have sex? Even Mick needs to beg for it every once in a while. So tell me, are you hard enough? Are you rough enough? Are you rich enough?
“If I Am” – Nine Days
So once upon a time (back in 11th grade) I had this creepy secret admirer. And while the whole experience was really awkward, I did come away with a killer mixtape. This song was on it and it’s been one of my favorites ever since.

Just Like Heaven is such a perfect song. You are the best, Racher.
