At about 3 p.m. this afternoon, a man shot and killed four people, wounded up to another 15 people, and then shot himself at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois.

“He pulled out his gun. He just started shooting at all the kids. He just started shooting at people, and I ran out of there as fast as I could,” said Jillian Martinez, a NIU freshman, in the Chicago Tribune.

There are no reports at this time whether or not the gunman was a student at NIU.

Racial slurs and Virginia Tech references were found on bathroom walls at the university back in December 2007. Authorities do not yet know if these two happenings are related.
