NU in 60 Seconds: February 21

What you need to know to live your life today.

What to do:

  1. Determine your direction in life: Go to the Major/Minor Fair at 3 p.m. in Norris’ Northwestern room, so you don’t have to look awkwardly at your shoes and mutter “still undecided” next time someone whips out the ever-popular, “Hey baby, what’s your major?” line. As a college student, this is almost as important to know as your zodiac sign.
  2. Make your Thirsty Thursday charitable: Attend DM’s Battle of the Bands in Nevin’s at 10 p.m.
  3. Switch to Gmail: So that when you’re involved in an embarrassing quote attribution scandal, you’ll only have to look through your archives to defend your veracity. Because with Google, nothing is irretrievable.

What to know:

  1. Get updated on the state of the university: President Bienen goes live online at 9 a.m. this morning, if you’re especially bored after rolling yourself out of bed for that early-morning lecture. We’re looking at you, engineers. Catch the webcast on the NU homepage, a simultaneous videocast in the McCormick Tribune Center, or head downtown to the Chicago campus’s Lurie Center if you’re feeling especially devoted.
  2. Oblivious people make better lovers: Kind of. An NU study reports that people who are “highly attuned to social situations” report lower degrees of satisfaction in their relationships. Cheer up, kids, your social inadequacies might actually mean you’re a better significant other.
  3. And while we’re cheering up: If your awkwardness isn’t the only thing getting you down, buy a sun lamp and fight seasonal affective disorder.
