Jonze’s “Where the Wild Things are” to be re-shot?

Spike Jonze, director of Being John Malkovich and Adaptation, has finally finished a rough cut of his highly anticipated film, Where the Wild Things Are. However, it was recently revealed that during test screenings kids who saw the film ended up in tears. Warner Brothers, the studio behind the film, is apparently so disappointed by this that they are requesting the $75 million dollar cut be scraped and the entire project re-shot.

Hold the phone. Kids cried? Really? Umm, last time I checked this movie was about MONSTERS. You know, those things that lurk under every 5-year-old’s bed. That’s f-ing scary.

I’m sorry, but I’m completely against this ludicrous decision. Being John Malkovich and Adaptation are some of my favorite films. Jonze is a true visionary and his work should not be completely discarded. I can’t believe Warner would do something like this.

But anyways, on the tech side of things, this film’s CG looks amazing. Even Jonze’s test footage – which is available on Youtube via the link below – looks pretty convincing. Here’s to waiting for the director’s cut.
