McCain clinches GOP nomination, Huckabee out
John McCain is now officially the Republican nominee for president. McCain swept the March 4 primaries, giving him more than the 1,191 delegate votes needed to clinch the nomination at the GOP convention this summer. Mike Huckabee dropped out of the race after results were in and McCain was declared the winner.
McCain is reportedly to receive the endorsement of President Bush tomorrow at the White House.
On the Democrat side, Obama is projected to win Vermont and Clinton is projected to take Rhode Island, which would break Obama’s 12-state winning streak. Ohio and Texas–the two big contests of the day–are as of 9:30 pm still too close to call.
