Hurt leg can’t stop dancer

Weinberg sophomore Kahn Fukui canned, wrote letters and begged his parents for money to meet DM cash requirements, and he wasn’t going to let a leg injury stop him from enjoying the night he worked so hard to get to.
“I was playing basketball last night, and I sprained my ankle,” the Weinberg student said. “Once the game was over, I got really bummed, because all my friends told me I probably wouldn’t be able to dance.”
Fukui couldn’t be stopped so easily. With the aid of his desire to dance and a single crutch, he’s here in the Louis Room tonight.
“I didn’t want to skip this,” he said. “I was excited, and I already had raised all that money.”
The injury isn’t severe enough to leave Fukui immobile; he said he “can kind of walk.” He even dances along to the music, though he does it in a slightly different manner than his non-injured friends.
“I mostly bob my head around,” he said. “It has been alright.”
Fukui said he didn’t tell his dance partner about his injury at all.
“I just showed up with the crutch,” he said. “He thought it was kind of funny.”
The injured dancer said his ankle already feels a lot better than it did the night before, and said it was healing along fine. But Fukui still isn’t completely sold on getting through the event unscathed.
“It’s going to be a long, tough day,” he said.
