i consider myself an ok NU sports fan, and I went to my first lacrosse game today! HOLY SHIT WAS I MISSING OUT!!! Our Lacrosse team is sick!!!

yepp, the key is finding a balance. Neither Joe or Anna is correct. I think NU does a very good job (with the notable exception of basketball) of balancing academics and athletics. Now it’s up to the students to care.

Anna you’re retarded. First off the athletic department is a money maker for NU, not a money loser. And second, if we had good sports teams (like Stanford and Duke, maybe) NU would be more visible nationally and would draw more (better) students and thus be able to give out more (better) financial aid.

Fair enough, although it’s a vicious circle: students don’t want to go to games because the team sucks, and a reason why the team sucks is because recruits don’t come because NU doesn’t have a national presence, etc etc etc. I just don’t see it being fixed while we’re at school - NU might not have a good basketball program until OUR kids are in college.

That’s not my argument, although who knows what would happen if we won a few close games. My argument is that our athletics department, and recruits, will have more interest in our programs if we support not only our basketball teams but also our teams that are among the country’s elite.
