I am a saferide dispatcher. DRUNK PEOPLE CALL FROM FRATS ALL THE TIME. There is no more familiar sound than the bass from a top 40 song coming in distorted through my headset. People abuse this system like no other. And there is nothing WE can do about it. People are not getting the rides they need because YOU are abusing the system. Think about. I don't know how many Willard to 1835 hinman rides I get a night. That is a safe walk. Don't force someone who need to get from Garnett to work at night to walk because they did not anticipate an hour 10 minute wait. That being said, you can get pretty much anywhere on campus in like 10 minutes for under $5. Call a cab guys. And crime happens. No need to cause panic and text a message to everyone saying theres a gunman roaming campus. Just be smart and know that every single night (notice how theres always crime increases when it gets warmer?), there is going to be a possible mugging. Stay alert and stay smart. Just two days ago a man was walking around Norris and was later arrested, and last quarter another man stole from a student office on the third floor. These public buildings need to be under some better form of security and students in general all need to be more alert and street smart. Kresge infamously has a woman known to just hang out there, she has been arrested over 20 times. We obviously can't shut down campus but UP and Evanston Police need to step up somehow. And in terms of saferide, consider the fact that STUDENTS are the ones working. Do you really expect them to stay up until 5 am on a weeknight when they might have class the next morning at 9 am just because you were out all night?
