Battlestar Galactica: “Six of One”

If he only knew. Adama struggles to believe that Starbuck isn’t a cylon, not realizing he’s staring right at a toaster. Photo courtesy of the Sci-Fi network.

If you’re reading, then congratulations - you survived the second week of school! Let’s celebrate with a recap of the latest Battlestar Galactica episode, “Six of One.”

Warning: Spoiler Alert!

The episode opens with Starbuck holding President Roslin at gunpoint. Instead of popping a cap into Roslin, Starbuck tries to convince her that she’s not a cylon. Still unconvinced of Starbuck’s humanity, Roslin fires the gun at Starbuck barely missing her. Starbuck spends the rest of her time in jail complaining about how she’s losing her “feel” for Earth.

Adama is furious with Starbuck for taking such rash actions. During his visit to Starbuck’s jail cell he tells her she’s lost her only ally. Starbuck makes a comment about Adama being Roslin’s wet nurse so Adama tackles her to the ground in a choke hold and storms out. He later tries to convince President Roslin that Starbuck should be trusted but Roslin remains unconvinced. Upset, Adama reminds Roslin of her fear of dying a lonely, meaningless death.

Meanwhile, Lee makes out with Starbuck, tells her he believes in her and wishes her well on her journey. He leaves Galactica to fill a government position on another ship.

The four of the final five discuss their fears of being caught and Colonel Tigh tells Tory she has to sleep with Gaius in order to get information about the final five. Tory beds Gaius and discovers that he too hears music, though it’s not clear if it was the same song that the final four heard before they discovered they were cylons. We also find out that Gaius believes in a one true God and that he’s seeing a version of himself just as he sees head Six.

On a basestar, the hybrids ramble on about the final five; this after the raiders refuse to fight the humans because they sense the final five in the colonial fleet. Brother Cavil and cylon models four and five are in disagreement with models two, six and eight about whether to lobotomize the newly self-aware raiders. Boomer, who is a model eight, disagrees with her models and votes with Brother Cavil and numbers four and five to lobotomize the raiders. Number six is frustrated that Brother Cavil is acting in a tyrannical manner and, with the help of number two and eight, enables higher level processing in the centurions. The centurions learn that the raiders are being lobotomized and shoot up Brother Cavil and numbers four and five.

At the end of the episode Starbuck is escorted out of her jail cell and meets Adama in the hangar where he tells her he doesn’t want to lose her. He gives her a ship so that she can find Earth and prove Roslin wrong.

Next week:
We see scenes of Six telling the centurions to escort Brother Cavil off the ship but they appear to turn on her. Starbuck tells Anders that she feels like an alien. Colonel Tigh freaks out because he thinks Cally might’ve found out about four of the final five. There’s a scene of Cally trapped in the airlock while Tory presses the air lock release button.

Quotation of the week: “[Baltar] is accomplished in two things: lying in a cell and lying in a woman.” – Colonel Tigh
