A letter from ASG president-elect Neal Sales-Griffin
Thank you.
To all who voted, to all who shared your ideas and concerns, to all who looked at the candidates’ platforms: Thank you. Your participation and your involvement made this exciting race possible. This campaign was never about me. It was about collaboration between a diversity of people and ideas. It began with a few ideas and a few people with the passion to build a better Northwestern. It continued with your votes and your involvement. The turnout in this election was amazing. The five-thousand-plus ballots cast put ASG back on Northwestern’s radar.
The next step is to connect ASG with the student body. The next step is to build ASG’s capacity so that it can act on your ideas and your concerns. Your involvement in this Northwestern democracy does not end with thirty seconds on NULink. Involvement means coming to the Senate and engaging in the new president’s Questions session. Involvement means signing on to a newer, sleeker ASG Web site and telling us what can be better. Involvement is raising your voice.
Here is what I can do: listen. The new ASG will open up new avenues for you to communicate your ideas and concerns. If a Northwestern student wants to know what ASG is talking about, what it is planning, when it is meeting and what is on the agenda, that student should only need to spend a few minutes on ASG’s Web site. The agenda going forward depends on you: It is open to your ideas and your involvement. It is our goal to make it so that ASG is accountable and accessible. It is our goal to inject passion into our student government. It is our goal to bring 7,826 voices together. It is our goal to wake up Northwestern.
Good morning.
–Neal Sales-Griffin,
ASG president-elect
