James Van Der Beek comes to campus. Cue Paula Cole song.

Here’s what happened: There I am, walking along, thinking about Logan Echoll’s perfection and the Spanish quiz I chose not to study for and would later bomb. Suddenly I notice the unusually large number of people crowding the sidewalk in between Deering Library and Deering Field. Weird, I thought, wondering what the reason could be. Then I remember that prospies have infiltrated our campus for the week and I’m back to thinking about Logan.

That is, of course, until I see the camera crew. And the woman with a hose soaking the path in front of me. And the slightly hostile woman with a 1940s hair-do who practically bolts away from the underages rushing to class. Continuing on my path to make it to my beyond early 12:00 class, I assume the film crew, elaborate lighting and co-stars walking about are part of whatever project Studio 22 is working on this spring.

And then James Van Der Beek walks in front of me. That’s right, Dawson Leary crossed within two feet in front of me. Somehow I resisted the urge to ask him how he felt after Joey chose Pacey in the end, I walked on and texted my mom (who it turns out didn’t know a. that I snuck to the basement to watch Dawson’s Creek or b. who James Van Der Beek was).

Apparently Van Der Beek was on campus filming Formosa Betrayed, a film about a detective investigating the murder of a professor. Sounds like gold.

$40 to the first person who finds out where he’s staying and leaves a boom box playing “I Don’t Want To Wait” on repeat.
