Gone Greek: “A Tale of Two Parties”
By
The world of Greek contains plenty of references to the Internet, from shots of characters using instant messaging to people writing e-mails. But one of the biggest online tools around today has never reared its blue and white head. Seriously, do the kids at Cyprus Rhodes not have Facebook? The issue of Mark Zuckerberg’s soul-sucking creation never being used wasn’t an issue until tonight’s episode, when the social networking site would have resolved nearly every problem presented in “A Tale of Two Parties.”
Think about it: With Facebook, Rusty and Tina could have simply set their relationship status to “it’s complicated” and there wouldn’t be any confusion. Rusty could have sent his sister a Facebook message asking for sex advice, instead of trying to get it out of her one-on-one. The Kappa Taus could have gotten the word out about their party a whole lot better had they created an event page. Casey could have gotten right to flirting with the guy from Wildfire because she would have seen he’d broken up with his girlfriend on her newsfeed. Plus, Evan might pick up on the fact Frannie wants him bad if he’d just ask her about her Facebook Five.
I think on a show where characters reference Gossip Girl they should probably use one of the biggest websites on the Internet to interact. Or maybe Greek happens in some other dimension where Mark Zuckerberg was never born and Friendster is the dominant social website. No writer for Greek could think of that.
Summary
Omega Chi decides to throw a big party celebrating the end of the school’s restrictions. Kappa Tau counters, throwing a rager of their own. Casey wants to meet “hot boys” at the party, but Evan does everything he can in his power to have her not interact with anyone else. Much to Evan’s dismay, Casey and a guy (played by some guy from ABC Family’s horse-centric drama “Wildfire”) hit it off. Rusty realizes he is Tina’s “fun buddy” (guess what that really means), and is confused about how to approach that. Plus, Calvin and his TA share a kiss, which means ABC Family isn’t playing around with their “new kind of family” tagline.
Representations of College
- The running gag in tonight’s episode was that Rusty turns to a wide variety of people for advice regarding Tina, with all of their help bordering on the idiotic. I applaud this joke, because a lot of advice you get in college is really stupid. Nobody had the right answer for Rusty, the same way nobody has the right answer for any of your meaningless problems.
- Cappie references an “American Girl Spring Fashion Show Party.” He meant it as an insult, but I fear that could actually be a brilliant party idea.
- I wish Ashleigh’s line about reading every issue of Cosmo was some bad joke. But nearly every female I’ve met worships that rag. Don’t know if that’s a commentary on college or girls in general, though.
- Most of the music featured at both frat parties would never be played at a real frat party. People want something you can dance to, not emotional pop-rock. At one point, though, the Omega Chi party featured a rap song. That’s more like it!
- A friend in sorority says the episode misrepresented the “sober sister” policy. There you go.
Greek’s Bad Writing In Action
- Instead of saying the extra two syllables necessary, one frat bro refers to Rusty and Tina’s relationship as “friends with bennies.” Hope it isn’t this Benny.
- The scene where Beaver pretended to be Tina calling Rusty was one of the most cliché sitcom moments Greek could have ripped off. What’s next, Kappa Tau gets a wacky neighbor?
-
To keep it blunt and simple: Nearly all the dialog between Casey and Ashleigh is putrid. Absolute garbage. Can Ashleigh go on study abroad or something to “Hotmanistan” just so we don’t have to deal with the raw sewage that is her lines?
Closing Question - Does anyone actually watch ABC Family’s Wildfire? Alternatively, does anyone watch anything else on ABC Family?

Yes, I do watch Wildfire every Monday with my family. I do not watch anything else on the channel on a regular basis besides this show. Wildfire is a great family show which is what Abc Family claims they are a family channel. I believe the show has great potential and should continue on for at least another season. Everyone who agrees should visit GenevieveCortese.com and check out the save wildfire forum and do what they can to help save the show!! Thanks, Cassie

I have enjoyed Greek. But….How many times does the plot have to revolve around beer? The new season is trying way too hard to be ‘break out hit’
I think that ABC Family real gem is Wildfire. The characters actually care about life and ensuring families survival. The horseracing lifestyle has not been portrayed on television in along time. Yet ABC Family has turned its back on it, cancelling the show.
We are campaigning @ SaveWildfire.com. Raising donations to send ABC Family increase incentive to save the show: hay. horseshoes. carrots.

yes and no… yes I watch Wildfire… every episode that has been on in the last 4 seasons, the world has stopped as I took my mini-vacation to Raintree. As for the rest of the ABC Family shows I have to say no. Now that they have canceled Wildfire I will definitely not watch their station and may not even need the added satellite package anymore either… i think they will regret losing Wildfire…

I watch Wildfire… its refreshing and not like any other show I’ve seen. It really brings you into the world of horse racing. And now even though it is over, I still recommend that people watch it and give it a chance. You’ll be hooked!

Yes, I watch Wildfire. Have watched every episode since the day it first aired. I watched Greek for the 1st time tonight only because Ryan Sypek from Wildfire was in it. Greek has no substance to it. My tv will never stop on ABC Family again until I hear that Wildfire has been renewed for season 5.

My family loves this show and we watch it whenever it is on. I know of other families as well that watch this show not just ours. We plan on purchasing the DVD’s and hope that there is a Wildfire Movie. I agree with what JD Lamb said Wildfire is a real gem. If not another season than just a movie.

I’ll get right to the point. the only reason i even glance at ABC family is because of the show wildfire. it is one of the best shows i’ve ever seen and believe me i watch a lot of tv. if it wasnt for wildfire i most likely would just bypass the channel because honestly theres nothing else on that channel that holds my interest. now instead of making more quality shows they give us more shows that insult our intelligence. they really need to step up and take responsibility and admit they were wrong and bring wildfire back for a 5th season. they promised fans a finale we’d never forget. that was over exaggerating. what they gave us was a forced wedding between two of our fav characters and a lot of unresolved storylines jam packed into one hr which had like 20 mins of commercials. it was absolutely ridiculous.

I LOVE the show Wildfire! My 13 year old daughter and I have watched it ever since the beginning! I am so SICK that ABC Family has decided to cancel it. It’s the ONLY show on this channel that I watch! I have been riding horses since I was 6 years old and am 31 now. My daughter takes lessons currently. Watching this show each week gives my daughter & I a chance to bond over something! It’s the only show on TV that incorporates horses and I think it’s WONDERFUL! It’s a GREAT family show and still has so much potential left. ABC Family needs to reconsider this show & bring it back for many years to come!
Thanks,
Brooke

Yes I proudly watch wildfire and all the fans are crushed and disappointed in ABCFamily for canceling their first family series that brought all these shows afterwards….I do not watch anything else on abcfamily except WILDFIRE. This show is for all ages and is a true family series…I recommend abcfamily reconsider because they will lose many viewers….the WILDFIRE campaign will not end anytime soon and we will continue until we see wildfire again…4 years ago I started watching abcfamily and so have many others ALL due to WIDLFIRE!!!

I’m an avid fan of “Wildfire”, and it’s the only show that I watch on ABC Family. I have made fans out of my mom and sister. I was even able to make my dad a fan of the show this spring before he passed away from pancreatic cancer. Wildfire was my weekly refuse. I was very upset when the series was interrupted by “Prom Queen” reality show.
I’m a 22 year old college student double majoring at a prominent southern university. I may be young, but I was raised with morals and standards that my parents inculcated in me from an early age, and I know quality when I see it. Wildfire is a quality show which appeals to a variety of ages, and has fans of all ages.
I keep hearing ABC Family’s motto about being “A new kind of family”. I’m sorry, with the shows they are airing, their “new kind of family” must be a sleezy bunch of drunk loose people.
Greek- I don’t watch this crap b/c its just another media degrading the greek system. Sorry, but drinking and rampant sex doesn’t happen in every sorority/fraternity or at every college. They cut out all the community service and the bonds of sisterhood and brotherhood that come about from being in a sorority/fraternity. If parents are watching this, they are going to think it really is like this everywhere and forbid their kids from joining. And those kids are going to miss out on an awesome experience that changes your life and friendships that last you a lifetime.
America’s Prom Queen- Please. There are so many things bigger and better then highschool drama.
The Secret life of an American Teenager- Sorry. Not going to watch an extended form of Juno, where the only difference is that she keeps the baby.
ABC Family may be “a new kind of family”, but with the crap they are putting out, they are a family I do not want to know.

YES! I do(did) watch “Wildfire” and have faithfully every season. I think it’s a shame such a great show has been canceled. I know myself, along with the other fans, won’t give up on the show without a fight. We only wish ABC Family felt the same way. “Wildfire” is the only show I watch on ABC Family, and without it, I will never watch their station again, nor will I recommend it to anyone else.

Wildfire is the best show on television today. The storyline is progressive and the characters have matured during the past four seasons. It appeals to horse lovers as well as people across all demographics and provides an escape from self absorbed reality tv. Wildfire needs a new home…………and the Hallmark Channel would be the perfect place for a new season as the characters enter a new phase in their lives. I ask everyone who loves the show to write to Hallmark and ask the network to join us in continuing the highest rated scripted program.

Of course people watch Wildfire. Honestly, maybe you should check show ratings before you ask such a dumb question. I have watched Wildfire since the very first day and have remained loyal to it. It’s a good quality show with great writing and established actors and is the only reason i watch ABC Family, but believe me I will not turn that channel on again unless there will be a fifth season. In my opinion it’s the only show worth watching. I can’t believe Ryan Sypek accepted a guest staring role on Greek. The character was lame and so is the show and i think it was a mistake for him to be apart of it. ABC Family needs to reconsider Wildfire’s cancellation. Of course I watch Wildfire. It’s what brought me to ABCFAMILY in the first place an it’s cancelation will also be what makes me stop watching ABCFAMILY. They look to be on the trend of bringing in shows about teenage sex, drugs, parties and it’s not what my idea of a “family” show is. Wildfire has inspired many and it still inspires us today. It emphasizes the family unit, the struggles, the triumps, the letdowns. It show romance and love, not lust and casual sex. Not only does it bring in the racing world, but the star of the show is a horse named Wildfire. The friendship formed between this horse and it’s rider, Kris Furillo, is really the heartwarming and so beautiful to watch.
Wildfire is unlike any other show. That’s why it stands out. Do we really need more reality tv? Do we really need another show about teenage life and partying? WE need shows like Wildfire and we will fight to the end to save our beloved show. If you haven’t given Wildfire a look, try renting the first 2 season DVDs and see what all the fuss is about and you too will fall in love with our little show about never giving up, never backing down and you too will become a Wildfire fan.
The question really should be: Does anybody really watch Greek? And if so, what meaningful message does that send?

Yes I am 33 and I watch Wildfire. My 7yr old also watches it. There aren’t very many shows on TV that we both can sit down and watch together besides cartoons. Sex, drugs, violence and reality are plastered all over every network. Wildfire brought my attention to ABC Family and I thought it was a great family network. Until the cancelation of Wildfire when they jumped on the reality bandwagon with the Prom Queen! I want my children to grow up right and having a competition on TV about being a Prom Queen doesn’t sit well with me. I think ABC Family has cut their own nose off by cancelling Wildfire-I won’t be watching anymore!

Yes i watch Wildfire. It is the main reason i watch Abc Family…i sometime watch the movies they air on there, but Wildfire deserves antoher season because that so called “Finale” that was supposed to “tie everything up” just left fans hungry for more.
Wildfire deserves a 5th season. end of story.

I think it is absurd when people who are involved in the Greek system get offended by this show. No parent is actually going to think that this is really what happens in college. The show is meant to be watched with a sense of humor, otherwise the dialogue wouldn’t be so ridiculous. The dialogue isn’t even realistic, and I think it’s pretty clear that the premise isn’t, either.
Also, I watch this show not just because it is entertaining but because my mom watches it and we like to talk about it. She thinks it is hysterical. She also liked Rugrats back in the day. If you really think about it, there is a common theme here.

I love Wildfire with all my heart. It was wrong to cancel the best show of the network. I miss it so much already. I also like Kyle XY, and think Greek is okay, but if I could pick one show to ever see again for years to come it would be Wildfire every time.

I LOVE Wildfire! It’s the ONLY show that I watch on ABC Family! It’s an AMAZING show with GREAT story lines and the BEST cast I’ve ever seen on any show before! ABC Family needs to re think its cancellation and bring it back for a 5th season! No offense but ABC fmaily is supposed to be a FAMILY channel, Greek is NOT a family show! It’s a show for teenagers, it needs to be on The CW with all the other teen shows! Wildfire is a family show, it’s the ONLY show I can watch with my family! It’s the best tv show ever!!!!!

Wildfire is great! It’s a wonderful show with great actors and intriguing story lines. ABC Family has made a huge mistake by removing its keystone. Wildfire is a show that I’m not afraid to watch with my kids, and I appreciate that immensely.
As for Greek, I just don’t see how ABC Family deems it as “family” programming. When did Disney get the idea for promoting keggers to kids? Good move there! ABC Family is not the place for Greek.

I too watch wildfire along with my family. I’m a 27 yr old with a 2 yr old son. But every Monday night that wildfire is on we join my mother, 45 and my 17 yr old sister just to watch the show. It’s a family event and afterwards we love to just sit around and talk about what happened and what may happen next. I’ve been watching the show from the very beginning. My son loves to watch and it’s a show that I feel comfortable with him watching. It is the ONLY show I watch on ABC Family and unless Wildfire has a season 5 I will NOT be watching ABC Family anymore!!
