i lived in a double and went random, and my roommate is basically the most genuine person i have met on this campus. we have never ever fought. we get along GREAT. we are actually A LOT alike. we almost became roommates next year, but we want to live in different places. so, don't be scared to go random. if you don't like your roommate, you can always go out with other friends and get involved on campus, so that you don't have to be in your room much.

as someone who both lived in a double and "went random," i can say i have had a less than stellar experience. my roommate was very frigid from day one and finally after a couple of weeks of proactively trying to open up lines of communication, i just gave up and we have barely spoken to each other since. The average scene in our room is the two of us sitting with our back to each other on our computers with headphones in listening to something. that is what it has been like for all but two weeks, and those weeks were awkward unilateral attempts at socialization. it is beyond weird to live in a room with someone and barely speak to them, but the guy is such a frigid tool that that is honestly more enjoyable than trying to talk to him. my freshman year would have been infinitely more enjoyable in a single and i don't think i would have met any fewer people. just wanna throw the other side out there, cause my dorm experience has been shit and i don't want anyone else to have to deal with it.

I don't know, my roommate experience freshman year was so, so bad that I don't think I'll ever live in a double again. No one believes the horror stories I have about her.
