LOST: Something Nice Back Home

By Staci Gold

As usual, this Lost Idiot Vox will be in the form of questions and answers and will contain mountains of spoilers.

Warning: SPOILERS.

Jack would make a cute dad if he weren’t so much like his own.

Question number one is, clearly, Will you marry me? Yes! Oh wait, no, you’re an alcoholic, just like your dad. Um… So the Jack/Kate/Sawyer triangle continues on even past the island, which, frankly, kind of pisses me off. Yes, it’s been going on for four seasons now — just freaking pick one of them. As excited as I was to see Jack and Kate together (with Aaron rounding out an adorable family unit), I should have known that it was too good to be true. And what favor, exactly, was Kate doing for Sawyer?

When does Claire die? I thought it would be last episode, when the house exploded, but that didn’t turn out to be true — we know that her death/disappearence is inevitable because otherwise there would be no reason for Kate to care for Aaron, but when and how does it occur? The freakish disapperence at the end of the episode could be it, but it leaves us without an explanation as to where, or why, she’s gone.

Dad? Yes, Claire, Dad. Oh wait, shit, that’s Jack’s dad too! Wait, what’s going on!? So, okay, finally it’s revealed that Claire and Jack are brother and sister, or at least half-brother and sister. Since I feel that this is a revelation that’s been a long time in coming (and also, the characters themselves haven’t yet realized it, even though absolutely everyone in the audience knows) it isn’t as big of a deal as it could be. Except for that one line — Jack, being an asshole, yelling to Kate, “Your son? He isn’t even related to you!” Oh, but Jack, he is related to you — the kid’s your nephew.

What’s going to happen to Jin? We know he dies, because we’ve seen the tombstone. However, you might remember that the date on the tombstone was the date of the crash — meaning that after Sun gets off the island, does he actually die or is he just still alive, back on the island?

Answers we got: none, really. There were no amazing revelations, unless you count the “Omg Jack and Kate get together, omg Jack and Claire are related” mini-shockers. Still, the episode was a bit too fluffy for me; nothing was said about Jacob, Ben, the Island, time-travel, Charles Whitmore, Desmond, the four-toed statue, Big Smoky, or basically anything else of interest. Ergh. Until next week?

  1. i’m pretty sure we already knew that jack’s dad was claire’s father. wasn’t that why he was in australia? in fact, i remember the scene where they met in the mall. it was weird because claire had black hair at that time.

  2. Yeah, you’re right, I forgot about that episode. Maybe I should change my article to, “Oh, shit, the elder Dr. Shephard is appearing randomly to his brethren! Oh wait, that’s not awesome because you’ve done that before. Can’t you just die already?”

  3. Wait, can some what tell me what the four-toed statue is.

There’s so much mysterious shit going on in this show that I can’t even keep track anymore. I bet they won’t even tie in all of this in the conclusion.
