Student film Girl Parts earns Zach Braff grant

June 2, 2008· By Alicia Capetillo

Girl Parts is a short film by first-year graduate student Erik Gernand, one of five recipients this year of a $5,000 movie grant from Northwestern grad and Scrubs star Zach Braff. The film reverses the setup of typical American romances by making the woman the aggressor, Gernand says, and satirizes gender roles and expectations:

  1. 1. SOT framed against wall again. wtf NBN?!

    2. Dissolves in the middle of the SOT?!?!?!?!?! Couldn’t you have found some B-roll to put over it?

    3. I think he has a mic. but at the same time the audio quality still sucks. The camera mic seems to be turned all the way up.

  2. I have to agree with the comment above — as someone who’s been on student film sets before, I know there were PLENTY of opportunities for some GREAT b roll footage, and I don’t see any here. Plus the director’s comments should correspond to what we see on screen!
