I grew up in a low income community and am organizing youth to improve their lives without the help of the established culture that views us negatively. I had hoped to catch the speech. I am sure it was full of useful information and knowledge that deliberately gets distorted by the “framers” of the so called “dominant” Anglo/Euro elitist culture. I don’t believe in an Anglo “God” per say. However, if there was one, I am sure “God” is damning imperialism, neo-colonization, and the way the poor are treated whether they are indigenous, African, or “Latino”. Also, let’s get get real. The only reason reason Obama was elected was because “America” has to “sell” an image to the world in order to maintain it’s military and economic power in extracting resources from the “Global South”. That is why some dessert dwelling thugs are resisting Macdonald’s and Coca-Cola coming to Iraq and Native Bolivians aren’t having those repackaged Opiates from Johnson and Johnson. They know it’s a hustle. I recommend all of you to study Geography, Sociology, Biology, and History before judging a man who fought through the worst racism that anyone of you privileged Northwestern students could ever endure. The “Real World” exists away from the affluent suburb of Evanston Township. What are you all going to do when you graduate? Yes, you have to deal with the poor and all “class” levels. Guess what? The poor are smarter then you think and we aren’t going to let you make money off of us. You’ll deal with us sooner or later when your beloved economic system impoverishes the world and creates a global slum. Either you or your children will inherit your sins of greed, gluttony, and vanity…

Thank you for inviting Dr. Wright. Dr. Wright has been my primary mentor for 19 years. As a white, female pastor I was in a tradition that distrusted women pastors. Dr. & Mrs. Wright encouraged me and blessed me in a way that no one ever has. I have heard him preach hundreds of times in seven different states. I hope that folks at NU will open their hearts and minds, realizing that he has been grossly mischaracterized.

Sure sounds like you’re claiming that you’re speaking for every black person at NU.

I’m black and I couldn’t be more against this guy coming to speak. I’m sick to death of people running to someone’s side only because they have the same color skin as them. This guy’s comments were so ridiculous, so inflammatory and outrageous, that Obama distanced himself from him as fast as he could. Please, someone tell me why FMO thinks it’s a good idea to support this man, and why do they feel the urge top speak as if EVERY black person on campus feels the same way. I couldn’t feel angrier that this is being allowed here and endorsed by FMO. Please FMO, stop speaking for me.

This will be a GREAT event. All are welcome and everyone is encouraged to attend having an open mind. This event will serve as a teachable moment for the Northwestern student body on a myriad of topics. Additionally, this event will be an opportuinty for those in the University to hear the perspective of the black community directly from us on the state of NU, state of NU’s black community and state of the black community in America. The theme of the night will be “Redeeming and Reclaiming OUR Community”.

This will go down in history.
