Indie flick from Derrick Comedy looks surprisingly good

Remember those guys from Derrick Comedy? You know, the ones who brought you such Youtube sketches as Bro Rape, Memory Loss, Blowjob Girl, Girls Are Not To Be Trusted and Keyboard Kid? Well, millions of views later, they are finally preparing to release a feature film.

The entire feature was shot on a RED camera, a digital motion picture camera developed by the founder of Oakley, Jim Jannard. While the RED has often been criticized for being over-hyped by their–in my opinion–genius marketing team, the kids over at Derrick say that its rental affordability was what made the film possible. Finally, an actual indie flick that doesn’t suck like Juno.

And while the trailer looks hilarious, don’t count on seeing the film anytime soon. They’re still looking for a distributor. Perhaps it will appear at next year’s Sundance Film Festival. While the creators of Derrick Comedy do have some ‘in’ within the film industry–one of the writers and actors, Donald Glover, is a writer on 30 Rock–it just goes to show that the digital revolution is supercharging and reshaping the movie industry. And as a film major, I couldn’t ask for anything better.
