Video: Soweto Gospel Choir sings and sways at CahnOctober 22, 2008· By Jessi Knowles and Taylor Soppe |
The Soweto Gospel Choir performed in Cahn Auditorium on Tuesday night to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Northwestern’s Program of African Studies. The Choir, which was founded in 2002 in the South African township of Soweto, has won international acclaim and two Grammy Awards. They’ve also performed for Nelson Mandela, Oprah Winfrey, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and even the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Check out their Tuesday night performance in the video below.
absolutely uplifting and beautiful! when are you going to sponsor similar events from/by african artists.

Beautiful performance. I’m so glad the video allows it to be shared with those of us who couldnt be there.
But I have to say of the lead in text: “even” the red hot chili peppers? as though a somewhat washed up US band rates higher than the former president of South Africa, who is about as international and inspiring a figure as any alive today?
