While I agree with your argument that Josh Schwartz's characters do tend to create a sense of disillusionment with female viewers, you definitely forgot to include the fact that, well, A) Chuck Bass is not Josh Schwartz's character, but one of Cecily von Ziesgar, the author behind the Gossip Girl novels. And B) You didn't even mention the more unfortunate of Schwartz's characters, Chuck Bartowski. While Zachary Levi does depict the typical Josh Schwartz archetype (tall, lanky, dark curly hair, nerdy) Chuck is seemingly doomed to a life of unrequited love with his CIA handler Sarah. Whatever feeble attempts to catch her does, it always seemingly falls short. His love life is anything but romantic and straight out of a Nicholas Sparks novel. Fraught with danger and heartbreak at nearly every turn, even the slightest chance he gets at a "normal" relationship holds the chance of blowing up in his face.

And I'm not even bringing up his best friend Morgan who got a girlfriend just because Chuck got one. Or Casey the NSA agent sent to protect him who, like Sarah the CIA agent, is doomed to searching out the one woman he loves in different cover forms.

Oh, Nicholas Sparks-- the caramel popcorn of literature. Books and movies both make their money from selling fantasies, so I suppose it's only fair that all of NS's trash literature becomes trash film. Still, I feel it should be a federal policy that his movies can only be rented from Netflix, Blockbuster etc., and his books only through the library, BookSwim, etc.-- no one is allowed to own due to possible damage to your mental capacity.
