Help us pick your Spring Quarter classes

It’s preregistration week, which means your next two weeks will keep you glued to CAESAR, perusing your Shopping Cart and groaning when classes fill up before your registration time. Your dream schedule, in which you have no classes on Fridays and no classes more than a two-foot walk from your dorm, will never be actualized, and you’ll end up settling for a distribution requirement with CTECs that scream “DO NOT TAKE!”

We at North by Northwestern feel your pain. We’re in the same situation. So why don’t we band together and help heal registration woes?

Here’s how you can help: Tell us about any amazing classes being offered this Spring Quarter. What classes are must-takes, which are hidden gems — and which should people avoid at all costs?

Send your picks to classes@northbynorthwestern.com by midnight on Thursday, Feb. 19, and — just in time for registration week — North by Northwestern will post reader and staffer favorites to fill your Shopping Cart after your hopes of only-afternoon classes are inevitably dashed.

  1. This is really dangerous…all the hidden gems are going to be eaten up.

  2. DON’T SEND SUGGESTIONS! DON’T SEND SUGGESTIONS!

If you gush about a class, you’re making it easier for the slackers to enroll in something that “sounds cool,” while students who’ve done their own research will get boxed out of a class they may legitimately need.

Or go ahead and send suggestions. But when that class you really wanted fills up faster than it normally does, don’t stare at your computer screen, bewildered and frustrated.

  4. I agree with Jessica. Everyone should just zip the lip. Good classes are hard to come by as it is.

  5. Yes, please don’t send in your suggestions. I’m a Junior and rarely get classes that I want as it is.

  12. i agree with “Agree with C.L.”’s comment.
    Here’s how I imagine a conversation:

Northewstern Student: What would be a good class to take in values where the professor is very enthusiastic?

Concerned, Jessica, nick, etc.: How dare you ask? If I tell you what class has a great prof, it will be DANGEROUS.

    Good job morons.

  13. Yeah, I’m a junior, too, and I am struggling to get into classes that I actually need to graduate.

“Agree with C.L.,” I don’t really think this is a “dangerous” idea, but it’s definitely not an innovative one. You said something about finally having a venue for commentary on teachers and classes. What about CTECs? I mean, CTECs aren’t perfect, but people tend to be pretty honest in their reviews.

  14. If people are too dumb to read CTECs we don’t need to put it on the front page for them.
