Peanut allergies give some dancers chance to get out of tent, sit down

Usually, the platters of food that pop up periodically during Dance Marathon are tasty bits of joys that help the dancers get through the long haul. For a select group of dancers, though, the snacks aren’t always so fun. Especially when it’s peanut butter on celery.

“I can’t eat peanuts,” Weinberg freshman Brian Ambielli said. “So I’m here eating a vegetable tray.”

Moments before members of the food committee came onto the floor with celery sticks smothered in peanut butter, DM announced that anyone with a peanut allergy should leave the tent. Roughly 15 dancers were escorted out of the tent and taken to a booth in the corner of Norris, where a tray of celery and carrots was provided for them.

“I don’t even like carrots or celery,” Ambielli said. “But I have to get some nourishment, so I’ll eat it.”

Ambielli said the food may not have been all that great, but he did enjoy a few perks of his peanut-induced position. “We get to sit down, and DM doesn’t care.”

“I think they feel sorry for us,” Communication freshman Robyn Char said, resting on a chair. “I’ll take it.”
