Experimental pop group Tapes ‘n Tapes will be performing at Norris on April 16. Tapes ‘n Tapes, a Minneapolis band, is best known for sometimes disjointed, sometimes fuzzy, sometimes discordant, sometimes oddly melodic tracks that have been sweeping online and indie audiences since 2003.

Composed of Josh Grier, Jeremy Hanson, Matt Kretzman and Erik Appelwick, Tapes ‘n Tapes have a sound that has been compared to the influential ‘80s and ‘90s alt-rock group The Pixies. Since their formation a few years ago, Tapes n’ Tapes has appeared at acclaimed national music festivals like Lollapalooza and Coachella. They have received acclaim from numerous critical heavy-hitters including Spin, Paste, Pitchfork and The New York Times.

One of their most famous tracks, “Insistor,” off their 2005 album The Loon, was featured in the music-centric flick Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, starring Michael Cera.

“Conquest,” taken from the more melodic album, Walk it Off (2008), illustrates some of Tapes ‘n Tapes’s roots in bass-heavy, ‘90s neo-psychedelic rock.
