I agree with this article 100% – it’s ridiculous that the pharmacy is shutting down. People can argue all they want that CVS is another solution, but the fact of the matter is that that pharmacy offered convenience because you get the prescription and fill it RIGHT THERE. As someone who is constantly sick and depends on the quality service of the health center, I am both appauled and saddened by the university’s decision.

This ending makes little to no sense. Plus, I doubt Misch commented on “food discounts,” which you seem to attribute directly to him here.

The NU pharmacy is able to get much cheaper contraceptives than CVS, which is the only other pharmacy within walking distance of campus. Not everyone has insurance that covers 100% of prescription costs; I can guarantee that at least some students will suffer an added financial burden due to the pharmacy’s closure.

CVS is 2 blocks away, accepts most insurance (not just NU’s policy), and is open 7 days a week with greatly extended hours.

This piece is another example of NU students playing the victim. And in this case we have the pleasure of seeing NU’s Health Director as a victim too. Only at a university would you have an employee such as this director publicly bashing his employer’s decision. In the private sector that gets you fired.

I really have no problem with this. CVS is less than two blocks south of Emerson, and many prescription insurance plans that cover drugstore pharmacies like CVS did not cover on-campus prescription purchases.

Why are students not involved in such an important decision? We pay $76 per quarter in health fees. For the activities fee – which is almost half of this – student voices predominate budgetary allocations. The closing of Searle pharmacy is a controversial topic with dire consequences. The administration needs to rethink this decision, include students in the decision making process, and release a public statement indicating exactly what is wrong with our on campus pharmacy.

Wonderful. Profitability takes precedence over concerns for student health. Why not just shut down NUHS altogether? Forget about the imaging facilities and the regular staff. Just think of how much the university could save while the students are ill!

I guess now I have to drag my sick self all over the place just to get a damn script filled.
