In honor of Earth Day, North by Northwestern has created a map to show which buildings at Northwestern consume the most energy. (Though Facilities Management only released data for selected, primarily academic, facilities.)

Energy is measured through the use of steam and electricity, key energy benchmarks that Northwestern tracks. Steam reflects the energy used to heat and cool buildings, as well as water processed for experiments, according to Dave Grosskopf of Facilities Management. Electricity includes energy used for lighting, computers, fans and pumps.
