Estelle to perform at Dillo Day

Dillo Day has a third headliner: R&B singer Estelle.

Mayfest made the announcement during Friday night’s Battle of the Bands at Tommy Nevin’s Pub.

The singer, whose full name is Estelle Swaray, is originally from London, England and is best known for her single “American Boy” featuring Kanye West, which won a Grammy award in 2009. Her album Shine was released in March of 2008.

During Thursday night’s Battle of the Bands, Mayfest confirmed that hip-hop group N.E.R.D and indie band the Decemberists would also play at Dillo Day. The group had hinted at all three headliners in a promotional video.

In addition, Mayfest announced that Rotimi and the Rainmakers won the Battle of the Bands competition, also gaining a spot on the Dillo Day lineup.

  1. I hope they add more artists.

Decemberists = good if you’re about to sleep, not party
N.E.R.D. = fun, but Seeing Sounds isn’t nearly as good their stuff from 5 years back.
Estelle = has one good song and that’s only because Kanye is in it.

    C’mon, Mayfest.

  2. Seriously, worst lineup in years. Maybe sounds good on paper, but this is an epic fail for Mayfest/ You should be embarassed.

  5. I have to say, I like the line up. It is a nice mix of artists who each have a specific sound. If you don’t like the artists, don’t come to Dilllo day or just so drunk that you can’t remember what happened the next day. Maybe you should listen to a complete album, before you make judgments.

    I'm pretty happy

  7. The Decemberists aren’t boring/sleep-inducing live. They actually put on a pretty fun show.

  8. I, like many of the other commenters, am rather disappointed by the line-up. I’ve seen Decemberists before and, while they’re a killer act, they’re not typical Dillo Day fare. NERD will likely be good, but ESTELLE? Really, Mayfest? I expect much more out you.

  9. I’m excited to see Rotimi’s group perform. Their set at the battle of the bands was killin!

  10. NERD is the obvious headliner here and by far the most fun band in the line-up. The Decemberists are a talented bunch of kids, but their music (as some have said) isn’t really Dillo fare whatsoever. And Estelle…let’s just hope Kanye is in town to save her set.

The real winner here might be Mike Posner (if he comes). While his music is fairly catchy yet middling, he’ll definitely bring the most energy to the stage. And after Cake’s lackluster showing a few years back, that’s all we really need to have a good time.

  14. Don’t get upset at the Mayfest people. They probably did the very best they could do. Just be upset by the unfortunate fact that this was the best they could do.

  16. I worked at Atlantic Records last year (Estelle’s label) turns out the record label itself is completely at odds with how to sell this “Artist” in the US. Just because she was famous in the UK it doesn’t mean she is good. The fact that she is doing a college tour and isn’t signed on for any other tours shows how mediocre she is.

Seriously guys, she has one good song, that is it. The lineup sucks this year. The only thing that would make it better is if they got the Kings of Leon (Who I believe are touring in England currently) or MGMT Blame it on the credit crunch…

  17. Yeah, I’m not too impressed with the lineup. The Decemberists is a good band but I can’t picture us rocking out to them on Dillo Day. I hope to god Mike Posner comes. that would be fuckin amazing.
