Clarification — Public Affairs Residential College originally did not show up when “air conditioning” was selected as an important amenity. Thanks to PARC president Andrew Brugman for pointing out the problem.
Under Public Affairs Residential College’s video, Sara Grossbarth’s grade has been corrected from freshman to sophomore. Thanks to commenter Sara for pointing out the problem.
Under Shepard’s video, Jake Rosner’s grade has been corrected from freshman to sophomore. Thanks to commenter Camille for pointing out the problem.
The housing guide is the best! Great job everybody.

NBN, you outdid yourselves. Very well executed – particularly love the ability to compare dorm room sizes by placing them within each other. Impressive.

Somewhat creeped out all the photos are from last year, and I’m in one of them…

A lot of your numbers make no sense. How is Plex further from Norris than Elder? Please check facts.

Would you please not make Shepard look like shit? The interviews and the quotes are very biased. It doesn’t seem fair at all.

Are the rooms in 1835 Hinman extremely small, or are they just OK, because the pics make them look unbelievably tiny?

@Rude and Biased?
The interviews and quotes come from people LIVING IN YOUR BUILDING. Who says those students’ opinions aren’t as valid as your own?

@NU 2014
All the room layouts are based off of the Northwestern Undergraduate Housing website’s drawings. That said, it is only a very rough standard. Not all the doubles are shaped the same or are the same size. From my personal experiences in 1835 Hinman, there are some very large doubles, but then there are also that are also a bit tighter.

Hinman Lincoln won’t exist next year. It’s being combined with Elder to be the Elder Residential Community. They’re doing construction now til beginning of the school year

Some of those pictures aren’t actually of Shepard. Kind of looks like Willard or Allison actually. 17, 18, 19 and 20 don’t look like Shep rooms.

Hey, I’m a former Shepard resident, and I took those photos for the original housing guide. They’re definitely Shepard rooms, just before they got the new furniture.

Hey guys,
I think you should vary which social groups you interview. All of the people interviewed for Willard are basically one opinion–all the interviews could very well have happened in the same room. They just make it sound so boring, when really it is the most outgoing, exciting, absolutely crazy dorm on campus (different kind of crazy than bobb).
Also, I know you try to get positive and negative opinions, but you should give weight to opinions that occur more frequently. I promise you a very, very small population of Willard said it was anti-social (maybe one person?), although based off the guide it looks like 50% of Willard thinks that’s the case.
Good job though! It’s great!

that girl that said you can be at cvs from hinman in 5 minutes is smoking crack. she must think the dinosaurs existed 2 years ago. do NOT live in 1835 hinman, the rooms are just as small and depressing as they look, the people usually suck, and it’s a really inconvenient location for everyone except lazy journalists. live on north campus, 1835 hinman was by far my worst experience at nu.

I definitely agree with “woo” about getting the majority opinion from students, as opposed to different sides.
Like for the Allison video – I feel like it sounded more negative than it needed to be, since if you were to ask most people about their Allison experience and it would be pretty positive. I just think it makes the guide more confusing than helpful, since incoming freshman just want to know the best places to live, not hear a well-rounded argument for each dorm.
Maybe that’s something you can consider for next year. Thanks.
Steph

@Steph- there is no “best” place to live on campus. people can have fantastic or terrible experiences at NU regardless of their dorm. NBN does an incredible, balanced job presenting each dorm’s amenities and general atmosphere without delving into the “OMG ALLISON OR DIE” mentality.

It’s too bad I spent my time choosing dorms I wanted to live in, because I got stuck with a crappy one that I didn’t even apply for. The distribution of housing is so unfair.
