Students and Evanston community members get acquainted before the Freedom Seder begins Thursday.The Seder, which was held in Hardin Hall and was sponsored in part by Hillel and For Members Only, celebrated the shared civil rights history and relations between the Jewish and African American communities.

Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom Ha’Shoah) Vigil

Candles are set out to be lit as part of a memorial service for Yom Ha’Shoah, the Holocaust Remembrance Day. During the ceremony, which was sponsored by Hillel and Students Helping to Organize Awareness of the Holocaust (SHOAH), students lit six candles representing the six million Jews who died during the Holocaust, recited poetry by Holocaust victims and survivors and read a list of Jews killed during the genocide. The candles will burn for 24 hours.

Northwestern Performance Studies graduate student Isailama Diouf leads RTVF senior Aziza Walker and McCormick sophomore Uchenna Moka in a West African dance lesson. The lesson, held in Patten Gymnasium at 7pm, was part of the African Student Association’s Africa Awareness Week.

Northwestern builds ‘Mt. Trashmore’ for Earth Day

For Earth Day, SEED and several other groups collaborated to create a trash pile equivalent to the amount of garbage that the Evanston campus throws out every six hours, naming it “Mt. Trashmore” and placing it near Lunt Hall.

After a quarter of long lines, frustrated students and ticket scalping, students on Thursday praised A&O’s limit of two tickets per person for the A&O Ball, featuring the Counting Crows.
