Colleen Rafferty, a 19-year-old Elmhurst resident, talked to dancers about Bear Necessities’ Small Miracle Program, which helps patients with special gifts and family support. Her speech drew long applause.
“It’s a great program that helps people who need it the most,” she said afterward.

DM’s main beneficiary this year is Bear Necessities, a group that fights pediatric cancer. The group’s founder, Kathleen Casey, talked about applying to DM and her impressions of the event.
