Two teams face off in the tug-of-war during the Residential College Board Field Day. The event held at the Lakefill on Saturday had free food, an obstacle course and a race called “Master’s Mile” where residential colleges raced their masters in decorated shopping carts. Slivka won the Master’s Mile with a time of 3:04, beating second-place PARC by 10 seconds.

Students and Evanston community members get acquainted before the Freedom Seder begins Thursday.The Seder, which was held in Hardin Hall and was sponsored in part by Hillel and For Members Only, celebrated the shared civil rights history and relations between the Jewish and African American communities.

Thai Night 2008 featured Rabum Sri Vichai, a Thai dance performed by Snow Pruttivarasin and Sunny Suntharanund, intertwined with a rendition of The Field of Love, adapted from the Thai film Monrak Luk Thung. Thai Night 2008 also included Thai country music and Thai kickboxing.

Candles are set out to be lit as part of a memorial service for Yom Ha’Shoah, the Holocaust Remembrance Day. During the ceremony, which was sponsored by Hillel and Students Helping to Organize Awareness of the Holocaust (SHOAH), students lit six candles representing the six million Jews who died during the Holocaust, recited poetry by Holocaust victims and survivors and read a list of Jews killed during the genocide. The candles will burn for 24 hours.

Northwestern Performance Studies graduate student Isailama Diouf leads RTVF senior Aziza Walker and McCormick sophomore Uchenna Moka in a West African dance lesson. The lesson, held in Patten Gymnasium at 7pm, was part of the African Student Association’s Africa Awareness Week.

The Princeton Laptop Orchestra, or PLOrk, performed Saturday night at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall. With key presses, mouse scrolls and even a few twirls, the orchestra performed eight pieces of computer music.

Tom Flader of TGF Enterprises, an Illinois landscaping company, finishes burning the vegetation around the Lakefill on Saturday. The goal of the controlled burn is to kill invasive species and remove dead plants, Flader said.
