Lambda Chi and Gamma Phi teeter totter for charity

On Friday, Lambda Chi Alpha and Gamma Phi Beta teamed up for the annual Teeter Totter A-Thon, a philanthropy event with proceeds going towards Northwestern GreekBuild. For $5, anyone passing by the Rock could take a ride on the large teeter totter. For $1, students could grab a slice of homemade pumpkin pie. In the evening, the teeter totter was moved up north, where local musicians Royal Senders, Salty Catfish and Welcome Home played outside of Lambda Chi Alpha in the fraternity quad.

Project Pumpkin invites local kids to Norris

Northwestern Community Development Corps took over the Louis Room Thursday afternoon for their annual Halloween event, Project Pumpkin. Around 900 children from local nonprofit organizations, elementary schools and community groups went from station to station trick-or-treating, playing games and participating in arts and crafts during the three-hour event. More than 60 student groups volunteered for the event by running different booths and acting as chaperones for each group of children. Project Pumpkin began in the late 1980s and has grown to become NCDC’s largest event of the year.

Streakers get caught purple-handed

While she was walking on the bridge between Tech and the Seeley G. Mudd Library on Friday afternoon, Weinberg freshman and North by Northwestern contributor Brenda Chang spotted a group of streakers getting caught displaying a little too much purple pride.

“They kind of looked confused and scattered a bit,” Chang says, “but didn’t resist the police and were very compliant.” According to Chang, the streakers were handcuffed and moved to a docking zone where she couldn’t see them.

The only thing not being revealed was the identity of the ‘Cat fans.

“I couldn’t see their faces and I was too high up,” Chang says. “I was laughing too hard.”

Last Thursday marked singer-songwriter Josh Kim’s first professional gig. The Weinberg sophomore’s 20-minute solo set included four originals and two covers. He was followed by performer Matt Duke and the night’s headliner, The Spring Standards.

Sonic Celluloid mixed live music with short films at Block Cinema on Thursday night. The annual event, now in its sixth year, was organized by WNUR and Block Cinema. The musicians used heavily filtered guitar sounds, synthesizers, and vocal effects to accompany experimental films.

Students root for the Cubs at NU Day at Wrigley Field

Northwestern students flooded the Wrigley Field stands for the Chicago Cubs game against San Diego Padres. After Padres took the lead in the first inning, the Cubs hit their first home run of the game during the fifth inning and made a comeback in the sixth, finishing 6-2. Students cheered, hollered and sang “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” along with guest singer Coach Fitz.
