Northwestern receives $91.9 million from Recovery Act for research
This year, Northwestern has received 179 awards totaling $91.9 million under the new federal stimulus program. The university says they will use the money to hire more scientists and further research.

University endowment grows by 12.7 percent
After reaching a peak of $7.4 billion in April 2008, Northwestern lost a significant portion of its endowment during the fall of 2008. The recent growth of the endowment could be a sign of a slow recovery.
Dance Marathon registers more than 1000 dancers
This was the first year Dance Marathon offered registration online. According to a press release, the organization is moving towards a paperless registration system in the future.

Newly refurbished Great Room offers dining, meeting space for students
Located at 610 Haven Street, the Great Room, a refurbished historic dining hall which previously served as a reading room in the Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, will offer food, TV and wireless access to Northwestern students. The room will be open from 5 pm to 2 am Sunday-Thursday.

Communication senior Alex Weisman took home the Best Actor in a Supporting Role trophy at the Jeff Awards, a Chicago theater awards ceremony. Several Northwestern alums and faculty members also won awards for work on stage and behind the scenes.

Northwestern admissions alters early decision policy
Northwestern’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions adopted a new early decision policy starting with the class of 2013, allowing applicants to be deferred to regular decision when applying early. Under the old policies, applicants were either rejected or accepted outright.

Hundo to leave current location in March 2010
Hundo will close its doors at its Northwestern-owned 1800 Sherman Ave. location in March 2010. The University opted not to renew Hundo’s lease. Owner Tony Anton plans to “go out with a bang” and is looking for a new location in Evanston.
