Cast and crew of the Purple Crayon Players’ fall play Holes painted the Rock midnight Wednesday. The adaptation of Louis Sachar’s well-known novel runs Thursday through Saturday at the Shanley Pavilion. Tickets are $5.

Members of Amnesty International’s Northwestern (AINU) chapter painted the Rock for Stop Violence Against Women Week, which runs Monday through Friday. AINU will celebrate Stop Violence Against Women Week with programs including a viewing of a documentary addressing international sex trade and a discussion by women’s rights activist Ahmed Ghasmery on Friday at Norris.

Members of the Northwestern chapter of the Roosevelt Institute painted the Rock to promote the Illinois Youth Town Hall event, which will be held Sunday afternoon at Dyett High School to address violence, unemployment and access to education among young people in the state. The Roosevelt Institute is a network of college student think tanks founded to influence policy-making.

Members of the Taiwanese American Students Club painted the Rock at midnight Thursday morning to advertise their upcoming event. Karaoke Night: Taipei Drift will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday in the Norris Louis Room.

The visage of Frances Willard, the 19th century Evanston suffragette who is the namesake of Willard Residential College, greeted students from the Rock Saturday morning. Willard residents also included the Latin words for “Liberty, Chasity, Sobriety” when they painted the Rock at midnight to show off their impressive portrait-drawing skills.

Cast and crew of Lovers and Madmen’s production could not be subdued Thursday night, covering the Rock and a nearby tree to publicize this weekend’s running of the William Shakespeare comedy The Taming of the Shrew.The show runs until Saturday with performances 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. tonight at Shanley Pavilion.

Members of the University Lutheran Church painted the Rock at 10:30 Wednesday night. In its message, ULC invited students to its Sunday morning worship services at 2204 Orrington Ave.

A bright white sun rose on the Rock’s black sky Wednesday morning to shine on the Night in Manila Cultural Show hosted by Kaibigan, a Filipino student organization. The Multicultural Student Affairs event takes place at the Ryan Family Auditorium at Tech on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Members of the Delta Zeta sorority painted the Rock Monday night to announce Greek Idol, a philanthropy event hosted in cooperation with Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA). AKA president Alex Spurlock said representatives of Greek council chapters are invited to perform onstage at the event at the Ryan Auditorium Thursday, which raises money for GreekBuild and the AKA Scholarship Ball. The entry fee for each act is $20 and admission is $3.
