The Contemporary Thought Speaker Series will bring award-winning chef Samin Nosrat to speak at Northwestern May 2. The event will be moderated by Mike Sula, head restaurant critic at the Chicago Reader.

Nosrat's 2017 cookbook Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat: Mastering the Elements of Good Cooking was a New York Times best-seller and won such awards as the 2018 Fortnum & Mason Debut Cookbook Award and the 2018 IACP Julia Child First Book Award.

A Netflix docu-series based on Nosrat's cookbook, also titled Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat, premiered in October 2018. The show has been praised by outlets such as The New Yorker and The Washington Post, and currently sits at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. In the show, Nosrat travels to various locations to explore the different elements of successful cooking.

“Samin Nosrat is changing the way we think about food,” said CTSS co-president Amanda Gordon in a statement. “Her show highlights the unique role of traditional artisans, producers, and home cooks."

Nosrat's conversation will by the fourth event hosted by CTSS this year. According to its Wildcat Connection page, CTSS "seeks to identify and secure the most forward-thinking minds of our generation to speak to the Northwestern community." CTSS most recently brough Pulitzer Prize winner Hilton Als to campus for a moderated discussion.
