The African Students Association of Northwestern held its annual African cultural celebration called Jabulani Saturday evening. This year's theme was the BAE Awards (Brimming with African Excellence).

The students honored African celebrities in the categories of music, athletics, writing, modeling, acting and art in the style of an awards show, complete with performances from NU students and guest artists. Audience members entered the Louis Room on their very own red carpet.

Among the performers were McCormick sophomore and rapper, Prez Harris, King Osa and the Essence Dance Team from UIC. The event also included a fashion show featuring NU students as the models and designs by Jennifer Akese Burney, a designer for Akese StyleLines which is focused on making designs with a unique afrocentric touch. Sophomore Mazeed Aro-Lambo said he wanted to participate in the event "to celebrate African culture."

The winners of each category were decided through polls on Facebook and were revealed in between performances.
