DM: Get your dancing shoes and raise some cash

To anybody who loves a good beat, making kids smile and being part of a Northwestern tradition,

With the blisters and grooves of Dance Marathon 2010 still fresh in our minds, it hardly seems possible that Dance Marathon 2011 is less than five months away.  Before we know it, we’ll be bravely canning in the snow, washing extra pairs of socks and heading off to Norris for our favorite weekend of the year. For the lucky freshmen about to experience NUDM for the first time, five months might seem ages and ages away, but those of us who have been around the tent a few times know it’ll fly by.

Throughout this past week, we have been busy forming committees from an overwhelming amount of talented and inspiring students. Next week, Northwestern students will once again astound us with their commitment to philanthropy, community and, of course, to dancing.  By the end of next week, we will be fortunate enough to finally introduce our beneficiaries, The Children’s Heart Foundation and Evanston Community Foundation, to the incredible Northwestern students who will officially be a part of NUDM 2011.

Dancer registration will take place Monday, Oct. 18, through Friday, Oct. 22, and is occurring completely online for the first time ever. At any time between Monday at 9:00 a.m. and Friday at 5:00 p.m., students may visit to register with their chosen dancing partner. The form seems pretty straightforward, even to technologically challenged individuals like us. Once the liability waiver is digitally signed and the form submitted, the registration fee of $45 per dancer can be paid online by credit/debit card, or in person by cash or check.

While we’re sure the ever-patient staff of Norris will miss the usual dancer registration crowds, we are definitely excited to streamline registration and bring NUDM into the digital age. We hope that the five-day online registration will make the process easier both for the organizers and the dancers, and enable even more students to be a part of our favorite Northwestern tradition. In the event that there are any questions, or if dancers just want to hang out with some really cool people, members of the NUDM executive board will be on the ground floor of Norris on Monday, Oct. 18, and Friday, Oct. 22, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Get your dancing shoes ready — it’s going to be an incredible five months,
